Perhaps England's most unfortunate king, Edward assumed the
crown on the death of his father in 1307 at the age of 23. Tall,
handsome, and well-formed, he was muscular and energetic, but not
inclined to jousting and hunting as were most noblemen of the day.
Although unsuccessful in war, his relationship with his favorite,
Piers Gaveston, whom he made Earl of Cornwall, drew harshest
criticism.
Perfect actor for the role: Ansel Elgort
